PAS: It’s good that Premier leaves, but bad side is he applied scorched earth policy

The parliamentary group of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) in the consultations with President Maia Sandu announced that they plead for snap legislative elections and will ask for the Constitutional Court’s opinion on the self-dissolution of Parliament. At the same time, the PAS MPs consider the Chicu Government “abandoned everything and ran away”, IPN reports.

Making statements for the press after the meeting with Maia Sandu, PAS acting president Igor Grosu said it’s good that Premier Chicu leaves, but the bad side is that he applied the scorched earth policy, as the ex-president of Moldova promised.

He said that before the Government announced its resignation, all the secretaries of state left and created thus worse conditions for remedying the pandemic situation. The PSRM – Shor Party majority had a similar behavior, distributing the public funds at a high speed, adopting laws to the detriment of the people and dividing the schemes and areas where they can earn money.

According to Igor Grosu, the people want another Parliament because the current one discredited itself. The most honest path to snap elections is for the MPs not to adopt any Parliament decision during 90 days, i.e. by March 17. Any discussion on an interim or transition government will lead to a delay in these elections as this temporary government will turn into a government of the bandits from the current Parliament.

“Things in the country will be also managed by the functionaries who will remain in state institutions. No one will distribute the posts. We will vote for a Prime Minister voted in by a Parliament chosen after the snap elections.”

PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco reiterated that snap parliamentary elections should be called in accordance with the Constitution. There are a number of options that are being discussed now, including by constitutional law experts.

President Maia Sandu on December 28 is having consultations with the parliamentary groups following the resignation of the Chicu Government. The meeting with the Socialist MPs was the first. It lasted for several minutes only. After it, President Sandu met with the PAS and PPPDA MPs and is to meet with the MPs of the Democratic Party and the Pro Moldova group.

Ion Chicu and a number of ministers, including the minister of health, will hold the posts on an interim basis by December 31, 2020 only.
