The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) decided to field ex-minister of justice Olesea Stamate as a candidate for MP in single-member constituency No. 38 Hâncești, where new parliamentary elections will be held on March 15. The decision was taken in the January 18 meeting of the party’s National Political Council, IPN reports.
After the meeting, PAS leader Maia Sandu told a news conference that Olesea Stamate is not a party member, but the party decided to support her in these elections. The PAS calls on all the pro-European parties, especially on the fellows from the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, to support this candidate as Olease Stamate has very good chances and will be an MP who meets people’s expectations. “Missis Stamate is a big fighter for the justice sector reform, against corruption. He is a specialist in law and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova needs such veritable specialists,” stated Maia Sandu.
In the same meeting, the National Political Council adopted a statement saying that the Government took the savings of the local authorities intended for financing education and capital costs, without consulting them about the redistribution of resources. According to the party, this led to the violation of the main principles of the local public authorities and local financial autonomy. The PAS demands that the Government should publish detailed data on settlements about the savings of local authorities available on December 31, 2019 and to inform the people about the reasons for the decision not to allow the local authorities in 2020 to use the savings made last year.
The party also requests to consult the local public authorities about the redistribution of resources and to identify solutions for financing the projects planned at the local level.
