For the third time, the councilors of the Party of Action and Solidarity tried in vain to convene the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council on Thursday. This time again, a quorum was not present, IPN reports.

Only the PAS councilors and the only councilor of the “Dignity and Truth Platform” Party, Victor Chironda, were present in the meeting room.

The PAS group’s head Zinaida Popa said the meeting was called for the local councilors to discuss plans for this year and to work together. “Our presence here today shows this. We are ready to deal with the problems experienced by the residents of Chisinau. That’s why the people gave us that vote of confidence,” noted the councilor. “We regret it that, immediately after winning his second term in office, gaining your trust, of those who voted for Ion Ceban, the mayor now derides that vote of confidence.”

“We do not comment on the political statements of particular councilors who spoke from the rostrum of the City Hall. Regarding the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, the agenda is being worked on and, when the drafts are ready, the CMC meeting will be held, according to law. For now, we are witnessing rather political actions of particular councilors,” adviser to mayor general, Natalia Ixari, has told IPN.

Previously, the PAS councilors had twice tried to convene the CMC, but failed to gather a quorum.

There are 51 councilors on the Chisinau Municipal Council. After the November elections, the National Alternative Movement Party and the Party of Action and Solidarity won by 20 seats of councilor, the Party of Socialists – six seats, the Party of Communists – two seats, while the Revival Party, the “Dignity and Truth Platform” Party and the Our Party – by one seat of councilor.

Under the legal provisions, the CMC has ordinary sessions every three months and is convoked by the general mayor. The Council may also hold extraordinary meetings whenever necessary, at the request of the mayor or of at least one-third of the elected councilors.
