The group of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) on the Chisinau Municipal Council ask for a temporary ban on the authorization of building works in the historical zones of Chisinau. According to them, the city is full of buildings with over ten stories erected in banned places, with the developers violating the buildings norms, IPN reports.
Councilor Zinaida Popa told a news conference that things are running out of control, while the authorities cannot manage the chaos witnessed in the building sector. Real estate agents are favored and the financial interests are placed above the citizen’ interests and the development of a city for the people.
“The solution for stopping this anarchy is to work out the Zonal Urban Development Plan for the central part of the city. However, a lot of work is to be done on this plan and we must ensure the sustainable urban development meanwhile. We must not allow other buildings that do not match the existing context, do not obey the norms and create a series of problems in the capital city to be constructed,” stated PAS councilor Roman Cojuhari.
The councilors said the PAS group on the CMC will submit again a draft decision concerning the institution of a moratorium on the authorization of building and demolition work in the historical center of Chisinau, for a period of at most a year of the coming into force of the decision. Under the same draft, the General Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division is to work out a Zonal Urban Development Plan for central Chisinau during a year and propose it for debates.
