PAS calls today’s warning ‘disgrace attempt’, accuses CEC of double standard

The PAS party has described as “an attempt to disgrace (it)” today’s warning by the Central Electoral Commission whereby the party has been ordered to pay up the remainder of a fine imposed in 2016.

PAS said in a statement that the eight payments it has since made, totalling 24,000 lei, in respect of the 100,000 lei fine proves it as a bona fide payer. Hence, argues PAS, the warning has been uncalled for.

“We’d like to recall that the 100,000 lei amount which PAS accepted during the presidential campaign and which now we have to surrender to the State Budget originated from a transparent contribution made by a foreign-owned company. At the moment of accepting that contribution, we did not known the company was (partially) foreign-owned”, reads the statement.

PAS went on to accuse the CEC of using double standards, recalling that the commission “refused to order the Democratic Party to surrender to the state budget 47 million lei after the Democrats accepted cash contributions over the legal limits”.
