The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) identified discrepancies in the work of the commission responsible for the establishment of permanent single-member constituencies, considering these an attempt to manipulated and fix the parliamentary elections of 2018, IPN reports.

Member of the party’s National Standing Bureau Sergiu Litvinenko told a news conference that the commission does not enjoy independence because most of its members are members of the Democratic Party. The commission does not ensure transparency and mimicked debates. It broke the law and discriminates against the citizens of the diaspora, favoring those from the left side of the Nistru.

In the same news conference, PAS leader Maia Sandu said the constituencies look rather strange and there are clear signs that the borders are manipulated in a move to advantage a political party or several parties, in this case the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists. “Beyond geopolitical rhetoric, this process of drawing the borders of constituencies is a proof that the Democratic Party lays the basis of a post-electoral alliance with the Party of Socialists,” stated Maia Sandu.

“We saw that all the promises made in the periods when the mixed-member electoral system was insistently promoted and the people were told that they will have their own MP disappeared. Now several communities are mingled and none of those promises is valid anymore.”

The national commission for the establishment of permanent single-member constituencies presented the list of single-member constituencies to the Cabinet for approval. According to the final map that includes 51 constituencies, 48 constituencies will be established on Moldova’s territory, including in Transnistria and Gagauzia, while three outside it.
