Party “The Right” seeks better voting conditions for migrants

The Political Party “The Right” calls on the government to adopt amendments to the electoral legislation by which to facilitate the migrants’ access to polling places in the presidential elections of this autumn. “In the past, we submitted initiatives to Parliament and proposed introducing postal voting for the people who are abroad or voting during two days. But the given initiative was adopted in first reading in 2014 and was then abandoned,” the party’s chairwoman Ana Gutu said at a press conference, IPN reports.

Ana Gutu noted that after the Constitutional Court decided to restore the electoral legislations that existed before 2000 and to allow the people to vote the Head of State themselves, it’s evident that without the vote of the people from the diaspora, the results of the elections will be illegal as they will not include the options of all the people with the right to vote.

The Party “The Right” calls on the authorities to take into account the necessity of ensuring the right to vote of the Moldovans abroad. “We hope there will be MPs in Parliament who will insist on the necessity of offering these people the possibility of voting in this autumn’s presidential elections. Though these persons contribute almost 30% of the GDP, they are excluded from the decision-making process and, when there are elections, they have to crowd around the embassy so as to be able to cast their ballots,” stated Ana Gutu.

The members of the party suggest introducing postal voting or voting by power of attorney and extending the voting period to two days for the Moldovans who are abroad.
