The Central Election Commission (CEC) will ask the Chisinau Appeals Court to annul the CEC’s decision to register the Party “Patria” (PPP) as a runner in the November 30 parliamentary elections. The decision was taken following a notification from the General Police Inspectorate, which said that the PPP received over 8 million lei from abroad for being used in the election campaign, IPN reports.
The CEC will also send all the documents received from the General Police Inspectorate to the Appeals Court and will demand confiscating the money transferred to this party for the benefit of the state. By another separate decision, the CEC gave its consent to imposing administrative punishment on representatives of the election runner PPP.
Renato Usatyi, who heads the PPP’s list of candidates, gave a news conference shortly before the meeting of the CEC. He said that this is another attempt by the government to eliminate him from the electoral race. He referred to the Ministry of Justice’s refuse to register several of his political projects and to the alleged intentions of the police to carry out searches and frame him.
According to Usatyi, the firm that transferred money to the PPP from aboard was created recently, this October, namely with the aim of disqualifying him from the electoral race by this transaction. The PPP didn’t use these funds and was to send them back. However, CEC rapporteur Vasile Gafton said that according to the data provided by the General Police Inspectorate, the PPP used this money to purchase cars, fuel and mobile phones.
Renato Usatyi also said that the president of the Appeals Court Ion Plesca has been already involved in this scheme and will accept the CEC’s request, but the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Mihai Poalelungi is against.
The CEC’s decisions were adopted by seven votes in favor and two against.
