Party of Socialists “Patria Rodina” will support PCRM in possible early elections

The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria Rodina” will back the ruling party if the Parliament does not elect the head of state on May 28 and early elections are held. The party’s president Eduard Smirnov told a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on May 26 that they will not go against the majority that chose the Communist Party on April 5. Smirnov said that if early elections are held, the Supreme Security Council should come together for a meeting as the sovereignty of Moldova will be at risk. The Council should thoroughly analyze the situation in Moldova and work out emergency measures to protect the sovereignty of the state, the constitutional order and the important rights of the Moldovan citizens. Afterward, these measures should be submitted to the Parliament for immediate examination and approval, the president of “Patria Rodina” said. He also said that the Parliament should set the required voter turnout level at one third. According to him, such a measure is necessary so that the early elections could be validated as they would take place in summer, when the turnout is lower. The party also says that the Opposition is to blame for the political situation in Moldova and for the devastation of the buildings of the Parliament and the Presidential Office. If the awards, pensions and salaries of teachers are not raised, the quality of the medical services will be lower and the Opposition will be again to blame, Eduard Smirnov said. “Who is not with us is against us. Who is against us is our enemy. Our enemies must be destroyed,” Smirnov said about the Opposition, quoting Joseph Stalin. He added that the Opposition would not manage to defeat the PCRM in early elections, as they say. “According to the Constitution, any imperative mandate is nil,” the secretary of the party’s Executive Committee Valentin Krylov said, referring to the Opposition’s refusal to participate in the election of the head of state. “Any MP is a free person and can choose to vote or not to vote on an item included in the agenda of the sittings of the Parliament,” he said. Krylov stated that the Opposition has no reasons to say that the elections were rigged and if they do not accept the Communist party’s candidates for the presidency, they should put forward their own candidate. The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria Rodina” did not take part in the April 5 legislative elections, offering its support to the PCRM. During talks held before the elections, the former president of the party Veronica Abramciuc was included in the list of the Communist Party under number 22 and is now an MP.
