Party of Socialists “Patria-Rodina” backs PCRM in elections

The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” confirmed that it supports the Communist Party (PCRM) in the election campaign for the July 20 early legislative elections as well. After the two parties held talks, the former leader of “Patria-Rodina” Veronica Abramciuc was included in the PRCM’s ticket under number 20. The announcement was made by leaders of the Party of Socialists “Patria-Rodina” at a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on July 1. The party’s administration said they support the Communist Party’s position presented recently in its pre-electoral statement. “The PCRM’s statement points to the real sociopolitical situation created in the country after the April 5 parliamentary elections and provides clear answers to the main questions that bother the entire Moldovan society today,” said Eduard Smirnov, president of the Party of Socialists “Patria-Rodina”. Smirnov called on their supporters to back the PCRM in the July 29 polls. He said that giving the power to the Liberal parties means depriving the people of any hope for a better life. Only the ruling party is capable of managing the country in continuation, Smirnov said, invoking the pension and pay rises in the budgetary sphere. Valentin Krylov, secretary of the party’s Executive Committee, denied the rumors that the party was bought by the PCRM. “We support the Communist Party consciously and of our own accord. The Communists’ slogan “Let’s Defend our Country” fits the situation created in Moldova after the April 7 events. We do not plead for war, but for democratic elections,” Krylov said. He also said that the former leader of the party Veronica Abramciuc was threatened by the Liberal Opposition. “We informed the Prosecutor General’s Office of this, but cannot provide more related information for now.” The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” did not run in the April 5 legislative elections, throwing its support to the Communist Party. In the April elections, Veronica Abramciuc, who was under number 22 in the PCRM’s list, became a member of the seventeenth Parliament.
