The National Political Council of the Party of Regions of Moldova nominated the party’s leader Alexandr Kalinin for President of the Republic of Moldova. On September 2, representatives of the party filed the required documents to the Central Election Commission for registering the initiative group for collecting signatures for participation in the presidential elections, IPN reports.
The Party of Regions of Moldova was founded on September 23, 2011 as a party with a people’s democracy doctrine. In 2011–2016, the party was led by Mihail Formuzal, while since February 20, 2016 has been managed by Alexandr Kalinin.
The initiative groups for collecting the 15,000 signatures needed for proposing candidates for President can be registered starting with September 1.
