The president of the Party of Change Ștefan Gligor accuses the law enforcement agencies, in particular the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office, of politically persecuting the party’s vice president Sergiu Postica, who is a businessman who became actively involved in the public life.
In a news conference at IPN, Ștefan Gligor said that as during the time of Vlad Plahotniuc, the National Anticorruption Center is used to execute persons who criticize the government. Sergiu Postica is persecuted on the instruction of the Party of Socialists for his political convictions. Last summer, when Sergiu Postica harshly criticized Igor Dodon, who then held office of President, the NAC started a criminal case “in rem” in the absence of a complaint.
Ștefan Glior noted that a number of persons were investigated so as to obtain statements about alleged giving of bribe from them. As such statements could not be obtained, they looked for and found something to be used in older documents, even if the statute of limitations expired. The law enforcement agencies kept the case in suspense until close to elections and on May 17 Sergiu Postica was invited for questioning, while on June 1 he was indicted. On June 7-8, the case was sent to court.
The president of the Party of Change noted he saw some of the details of the file and can say that this case is a “crass abuse” on the part of the investigation bodies, primarily given the electoral context. This was done to make Sergiu Postica withdraw from the electoral competition.
Ștefan Gligor also made a number of accusations against Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, saying that a number of crimes are committed before his eyes. The Prosecutor General’s Office should be reorganized and cleared of corrupt elements, while a number of institutions should be liquidated. The reformation of the justice sector is the first thing that should be done after elections.
Party of Change vice president Sergiu Tofilat said the case of Postica shows that when there is political will, all the state institutions work swiftly and nothing happens when there is no political will. The prosecutors should realize that the power changes and at a certain moment they will not enjoy protection. There are also honest prosecutors, but the authority of the prosecution service is undermined by the dishonest prosecutors.
