The Political Party for Moldova’s Union will give support to the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round of voting, the party’s chairwoman Ana Tcaci announced in a news conference at Info-Prim Neo. “The indifference on June 19 can reduce all our democratic accomplishments to zero. The Political Party for Moldova’s Union urges you to leave housework, entertainment and cherry collection aside for a while. We should think about tomorrow and our children who deserve a better life and decent living conditions in a democratic and European country. We must vote unanimously for Dorin Chirtoaca because he is the symbol of national democracy,” Ana Tcaci said, addressing the voters, extraparliamentary parties and civil society. According to Ana Tcaci, the electoral staff of the Liberal Party was informed about the decision to support Dorin Chirtoaca. Ana Tcaci said some of the voters had a negative reaction to this decision. “They told us that by supporting Dorin Chirtoaca we support the union with Romania. This is how the voters understand democracy and freedom of expression,” she stated. The head of the Political Party for Moldova’s Union said that the current election campaign showed the PCRM divided society according to ethnic criteria. “An atmosphere of hysteria and panic is artificially created in society by the PCRM. As a result, hatred appeared between the persons of different ethnic groups. We are concerned about such a state of affairs and are afraid that this fragile democracy can yield on June 19 and the Communist regime will be restored,” said Ana Tcaci. On June 5, the Political Party for Moldova’s Union polled 0.05% of the votes given to the Chisinau Municipal Council. The party did not have its own candidate for mayor and threw support to Dorin Chirtoaca.
