The Party “Democracy at Home” will compete in the upcoming parliamentary elections, including in single-member constituencies, the party’s leader Vasile Costiuc was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Red Button” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
The politician said most probably the party will have representatives not in each of the single-member constituencies, but only where it has teams. The Party “Democracy at Home” will take part in elections also because some of the members want to also run in the local elections of 2019 and the party should thus remain in the focus.
Anatol Țăranu, a member of the Euro-Unionist Convention, said the body of which he forms part is looking for optimal solutions for running in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The participation in elections is not a sine-qua-non objective for the Convention. “The strategical goal of the Convention is to cultivate, implement and consolidate the Romanian identity in the Romanian area eastwards the Prut. We have a very serious identity-related problem here,” stated Anatol Țăranu.
Secretary general of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Kiril Moțpan said there are now two distinct forces in the Republic of Moldova: the consolidated pro-European, anti-oligarchic opposition and the government. “If we want to rid the country of the current government, we must unite. It’s surprising that a number of political analysts and political leaders still think they can form a coalition with the current government. We will not change anything in the country this way,” he stated.
Political commentator Roman Mihăeș noted the fate of the pro-European and unionist segment is rather gloomy owing to the serious problems that existed in the previous governments and continue to have an effect. If the trends shown by opinion polls remain unchanged, there is a risk the pro-European and unionist parties will be in opposition in the next Parliament for at least four years. A unionist pole is needed as the unionists do not really support the bloc ACUM.
The parliamentary elections were scheduled for February 24, 2019.
