The National Association for Inbound Tourism of Moldova on July 20 signed a partnership agreement with the Incoming Romania Association with a view to developing cooperation relations in the field of tourism and business relations, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said that she was always confident that Moldova can advance its economy by developing inbound tourism because it possesses cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible. “The heritage includes folklore, mansion houses and fortresses that survived and handicrafts. During the last few years, these started to revive through the national costume and Moldovan carpets. The tourists who visit our country remain surprised by all these treasures,” stated the official.
Director of the Tourism Agency Stanislav Rusu said there are 300 natural reserves, about 1,000 archeological monuments and six fortresses in Moldova. Namely the inbound tourism brings foreign currency to the country and creates new jobs, including in rural areas.
Over the last three years, within a competitiveness project financed by USAID, Moldova has been promoted as an attractive tourist destination, but a lot of work is yet to be done.
The partnership agreement was signed within a forum that centered on the improvement of services provided for tourists, the new tourist products that could be launched together with colleagues from Romania and the cooperation in areas related to tourism. Among other subject discussed were the starting of tourism businesses by Moldovans who return home after working abroad, like pensions for example, and the support that the state and international parents can provide in this regard.
The event was organized by the National Association for Inbound Tourism of Moldova in cooperation with the Austrian Development Agency, with supports from the USAID Competitiveness Project.
