The Communist Party (PCRM), the Liberal Party (PL), the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), which will stage events on May 9, are not concerned about possible provocations. The representatives of these parties said that all the events will be mounted peacefully, without tensions and disputes, IPN reports.

According to the Communist MP Iurie Muntean, on May 9 the PCRM will mark the Day of Victory over fascism and will commemorate those killed in World War II. The party’s events start at the Triumphal Arch in central Chisinau at 9am. A march will be staged afterward to the Memorial Complex “Eternity”, where there will be laid flowers.

Iurie Muntean said the concerns of some of the politicians and experts are not justified. “There will be no provocations. This is a holy day for the absolute majority of Moldova’s population. The politicians must join this column and commemorate those who died in the line of duty. The Victory Day is marked, owing to which we are all on Earth and owing to which Moldova and the EU exist. The provocations are excluded. There are only rumors,” stated the lawmaker.

The PL will join in the activities of the Chisinau City Hall, which will celebrate Europe Day. A parade of brass bands from all over the country will be mounted in the Great National Assembly Square. Deputy chairman of the PL Valeriu Munteanu said the politicians make all kinds of speculations about tensions, but there will be no provocations. “Everyone must hold the planned activities in a civilized way. I don’t think there should be fears in this respect,” he stated.

The PSRM will celebrate the Victory Day. The party’s activists will stage a memory march from the Academy of Sciences to the Memorial Complex “Eternity”. “It is a tradition to mark Victory Day on May 9. That’s why things shouldn’t be stirred up so that everything goes smooth, as the previous years. We hope that there will be no provocations. Furthermore, the police will ensure security as this is their duty,” said Socialist MP Ion Cebanu.

The PDM will hold a concert in the square of the Opera House on May 9. The Democrats will mark Victory Day to commemorate those killed in World War II. Democratic lawmaker Sergiu Sarbu said there may be certain provocations because this day has a political connotation, wile the politicians are trying to divide society between the West and the East. “The Victory Day may be transformed into a confrontation of ideas and doctrines between the East and the West. It’s a big mistake. We hope there will be no incidents and provocations,” he stated. The PDM will stage a concert that will involve national artists and the special Russian invitees Iurii Antonov and Irakli Pirtskhalava. The PDM will celebrate Europe Day on May 10, alongside the EU Delegation to Moldova.
