Participation Council says decisions about book “Sex described for children” is hasty
The National Participation Council considers that the decision to ban the sale of the book “Sex described for children” taken by the Government is hasty, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The members of the Government showed they do not know the given subject. They should have had a preliminary discussion with specialists and all the players involved. The Government members had an inadequate reaction as they did not discuss the given decision, but complied with it without knowing this matter,” the Council says in a letter to the Government.
The National Participation Council says some of the bookstores withdrew the book from sale immediately after the appearance of related press reports, even if the Government Decision took effect only after it was published in the Official Gazette. “This reaction by the bookstores shows how fragile the democratic institutions in our country are. This hurry shows that the companies are afraid evened if they do not break the law,” reads the letter.
The book “Sex described for children” was issued in Spain too and was translated in 20 languages. It was banned only in Moldova. The Government decided to withdraw the book from sale on December 14. The announcement was followed by a wave of protest statements by representatives of civil society.
