Participants in summer eco-school to learn to protect environment

Children from Moldova, Ukraine and Azerbaijan will take part in the seventh summer eco-school “Island of Energy Conservation” that will be held in the Gagauz village Congazcic. The 75 participants were selected from among the winners of a contest centering on energy and the environment and from among underprivileged families and children with disabilities, Info-Prim Neo reports. The summer school is organized by the Gutta-Club National Center for Children and Youth. Project coordinator Natalia Halaim said that during ten days the children will participate in different training seminars, courses and outdoor games. Over time, the children built different solar energy-based installations that load laptops and mobile phones, showers and driers, etc. Alexandrina Golub, a volunteer working for Gutta-Club, said the aim of the summer school is to form integral and socially-responsible young persons who take into account the ecological problems. The knowledge they will acquire their will be useful at school and at home. Cristian Melenciuc, a student at the High School of the Academy of Sciences, said a wind-based installation was set up at the institution in order to reduce power consumption. It is used to load laptops and phones. At night, the lamps use the solar energy accumulated during the day. “The students are taught that green energy is in fashion and is an alternative for the future,” said the student. Sergiu Robu, of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said the promotion of efficient energy consumption is as important as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Scientists will help the children to implement projects that will contribute to a cleaner environment, he stated. The head of the Civil Protection and Installation Security Division of Gas Natural Fenosa Lilian Cernalevschi said the company, in concert with Gutta-Club, devised a number of activities aimed at promoting the use of solar energy, including the printing of brochures and calendars and the holding of contests. The children also visited the company and saw how it works. The Gutta-Club National Center for Children and Youth is a nonprofit environment protection organization. The national contest “Energy and the Environment” is held annually within the project “Spare”. Afterward, the participants attend an ecological summer school where they learn by playing. Gutta-Club has organized such schools since 2005.
