Participants in protest in central Chisinau chant “Down with the government!”

The people who took part in the protest mounted by the National Resistance Movement ACUM on August 26 chanted “Down with the government!” and “Down with dictatorship”. The people expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s attempt to prevent the holding of the protest in the central square of Chisinau with the assistance of the Shor Party. Besides the representatives of civil society who criticized the government, the speakers at the protest included representatives of the diaspora who make common cause with the people at home, IPN reports.

After marching on the streets of Chisinau and passing by a number of state institutions, such as the Parliament and the National Anticorruption Center, the protesters returned to the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great. Director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Igor Munteanu said the people want to live in a free state with the rule of law. He criticized the government for adopting the law on fiscal amnesty and other laws, calling on the people to be united and courageous and to struggle to have powerful state institutions in the future.

Liberal-Democratic MP Maria Ciobanu said 27 years ago Moldova declared its independence from the Soviet Union. Dangerous personages appeared later on the political arena and many of the MPs sold themselves. It turned out that the enemy wasn’t outside the state, but inside it. The people should unite as a dictatorial regime does not fall easily.

Political analyst Oazu Nantoi told the crowd that not only slogans, but also unity is needed for this regime to be really removed. Everyone should draw conclusions from the own mistakes as Plahotniuc didn’t appear out of the blue and is the product of our confused society. The people should get ready for a change that would bring freedom to this country so that Moldova has a future.

Deputy chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Alexandru Slusari voiced hope that no one except for him and his mate Dinu Plângău were victims of the pushes planed by Shor by order of Plahotnciuc. He said he is proud of the people who have come to protests for over three years by spending probably the last money and not for eating sausages, but because they have a free soul.

The representatives of the diaspora who came onto the stage set up in front of the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great said they had to leave the country and abandon their children and elderly people. They covered thousands of kilometers to be here today and the other compatriots abroad protest where they are, in Austria, Italy, the UK, the U.S. and other states.

A part of the protesters plan to remain in the central square of Chisinau overnight so as to celebrate the Independence Day on August 27. Tomorrow mongering they will lay flowers at the Mmonument to Ruler Stephan the Great.
