Moldovan politicians took part in the traditional Olympic Day Run on May 25 alongside professional sportspersons and amateurs of all ages. The 3.9km race, which was organized by the National Olympic Committee, went through the center of Chisinau, IPN reports.
The first to arrive at the finish was student Alexandru Lupusor, of the National Sports Boarding School. The 19-year-old athlete is a multiple national long and short races champion. Even if he came first, he wasn’t satisfied with his result and with the fact that he didn’t have worthy opponents.
Prime Minister designate Iurie Leanca confessed that he started to go to the gym a week ago. ”We need a healthy society and I hope that by such competitions we will be able to convince our citizens that the intellectual abilities will correspond to the physical effort,” he stated.
The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat admitted that he has ignored sports lately, but today’s competition showed to him that he should go to the gym. Asked by the journalists if it’s harder in sport than in politics, the ex-Premier said that Moldovan politics is the hardest thing.
Besides the Olympic race, the persons who went to the Great National Assembly Square were able to take part in fights for a rooster and a ram, to play tennis in a specially put up tent and to try their luck in a draw with prizes from sponsors.
