Parliament’s Fall/Winter Session to start Oct 4

Moldova’s Parliament will meet for its first sitting of the fall/winter session on October 4, as decided by the Standing Bureau of the legislature. The Speaker and the leaders of parliamentary groups will deliver opening speeches. One of the main issues to be discussed by the deputies is this year’s drought and measures taken by the Government to alleviate its negative effects on the agricultural sector. The Legislature went into summer recess on July 27. The Standing Bureau rejected then the proposal by 35 opposition deputies to call an urgent sitting for debates on the situation in agriculture in connection with the drought and the canicular heat. Speaker Marian Lupu stated at the closing sitting that in case of emergency the MPs would be summoned for an urgent meeting to discuss the effects of drought, but that never happened.
