Parliamentary subcommission for SIS control

A subcommission for exercising parliamentary control over the work of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) was constituted on the parliamentary platform. This will supervise the observance by the SIS of the law, the basic human rights and freedoms and the democratic order in the state and will prevent the SIS from becoming involved in politics, IPN reports.

The members of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order approved the composition of the subcommission for exercising parliamentary control over the work of the Security and Intelligence Service.

MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Constantin Starîș, who is the head of the commission on national security, was elected chairman of the subcommission, while MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity Andrian Cheptonar and Oazu Nantoi were named members.

Under the Parliament’s Regulations, the subcommission will examine cases of violation of the Constitution, the law and the constitutional rights and freedoms of the citizens by the SIS.

The subcommission’s members will periodically report the results of the parliamentary control over the SIS to Parliament through the commission on national security, defense and public order.
