Parliamentary opposition accuses government of ignoring initiatives aimed at fighting COVID-19

The parliamentary opposition considers the authorities and the political class in Moldova should combine forces in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, transparency and a democratic communication model should be ensured, IPN reports.

“We must unite as a society and as a political class, approve of the appropriate steps taken by the authorities and criticize. When criticizing, we should formulate proposals that can bring benefits to society, benefits in the fight against the coronavirus so that we overcome this crisis with fewer losses. Transparency should be ensured throughout the period, not only occasionally. We must see if there are financial interests behind particular transactions. There should be correct and timely communication so that the rules of democracy are respected,” the leader of the parliamentary group Pro Moldova Andrian Candu stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.

PPPDA MP Alexandru Slusari said their party during the past two weeks put forward tens of initiatives that can help contain the COVID-19 pandemic, but they were all ignored by the government.

“Mister Chicu says that he does not need the opposition’s initiatives as they are many in number and there is not enough people who can deal with them, that he does not need pieces of advice and that he knows a lot. When someone delivers such messages, you start to think how sincerely someone wants this union. I know that this approach does not come from Premier Chicu. Such an approach prevents the consolidation of society. The DA Platform wants this consolidation and during the two weeks proposed tens of initiatives a part of which do not necessitate budget funds. We are ready to cooperate as we see what is going on in society,” said Alexandru Slusari.

The two MPs referred to the fact that the government often criticizes the statements made by the opposition and civil society.

“Sometimes, it seems to me that I take part in a show of the absurd with free accusations, theories that seem slightly strange to me. You want to help, but who prevents you from doing this? Do you want to donate money, masks, protective equipment and Dodon and Chicu say that you should better not donate these and set them on fire?” asked Bogdan Țârdea.

The Socialist MP associated the current situation in the country with a war, saying everyone should mobilize.

“The nation mobilizes when there is a war. Everyone helps and the class, clan and party struggles are forgotten. […] In our country, any action of the authorities is criticized and they say that everything is bad and negative,” he stated.
