Parliament welcomes European Commission’s recommendation to open accession negotiations

The legislative body welcomed the European Commission’s decision to recommend opening accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova. “This decision should make us more responsible in the process of reforming the Republic of Moldova by doing all the reforms expected by the citizens as we all want to live in a safe and prosperous state,” Speaker Igor Grosu stated at the beginning of Thursday’s sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.

The official noted that the Republic of Moldova has in front of it a clear road towards a European country. “We will succeed by unity, wise choices and a lot of work. We should now step up the accession efforts and are waiting with optimism for the European Council’s final decision concerning the opening of negotiations, which will be taken in the middle of December,” stated Speaker Grosu.

On November 8, the European Commission recommended opening the EU-Moldova accession negotiations. A final decision will be taken by the leaders of the EU member states at the European Council’s meeting of December 14-15.
