Parliament votes against liquidation of economic tribunals

Parliament on Thursday voted down a proposal to liquidate the economic courts, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lib-Dem faction leader Mihai Godea, the author of the proposal, argued the move would reduce corruption in the judiciary. Vitalie Nagacevschi, his faction colleague, said it was not right that all the decisions on economic cases in the country were concentrated at one address, 73 Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, the address of the Economic Court and the Economic Court of Appeals. He reminded the deputies that the AEI parties had signed the government program which provided for the liquidation of the specialized courts. But Democrat MP Alexandru Stoianoglo had a different opinion. “It is an attempt by some parties to get control of the judiciary, and bearing in mind that in 3 months Parliament will be dissolved, there will be great disorder in the judicial system”. AMN deputy Veaceslav Platon said the attribution of economic cases to district courts would create chaos in the judicial system and damage the investment climate. “This bill is populist and has an electoral overtone”, he added. The bill didn't gather enough votes to pass second reading. However Mihai Godea insisted: “We'll go all the way until this bill becomes a law.
