Parliament to examine referendum protocols next week

Parliament will assemble next week to examine a number of legislative proposals, including the rules for conducting the constitutional referendum on October 20, where Moldovans will be asked whether they are in favor of EU membership.

During the session that will last from May 16 to 31, the legislature will examine in the first reading amendments to customs procedures, aimed at improving relations with taxpayers, Parliament said in a press release. Also in the first reading, deputies will examine an amendment to the Law on Housing.

Among the legislative initiatives to be examined in the second reading is the draft Law on Mental Health and Wellbeing, and a proposal to grant city status to Chisinau’s suburb of Stăuceni.

Deputies will also discuss a series of amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code; a bill remapping court jurisdictions; and a legislative initiative enabling people to choose any notary for inheritance procedures.

The agenda also includes the ratification of an Agreement with the European Union enabling Moldova’s participation in the Digital Europe Program. Also on the table is the ratification of a €40 million from the French Development Agency for the modernization of the forestry sector in line with EU standards.

At its next meetings, Parliament is due to examine the appointment of a member of the Court of Accounts. Also, deputies will hear the latest annual reports from the National Integrity Authority and the National Agency for the Resolution of Appeals.

On Thursday, May 16, the plenary session of Parliament is scheduled to start at 10:00.
