The legislative body comes together to discuss the motion of no confidence against the Chicu Government tabled on December 16. The sitting starts at 3pm on December 23, IPN reports.
The motion against the Chicu Government was signed by 34 MPs of the PAS, PPPDA and PDM.
The authors said the Chicu Government invested in November 2019 failed lamentably to attenuate the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis. The further government by this Cabinet means fewer chances of resolving the sanitary, economic and social crisis experienced by the Republic of Moldova. The disastrous management of the state affairs by this Government most evident in two key sectors – the healthcare and the economy.
Earlier, incumbent President Igor Dodon said the motion would most probably be rejected as a quorum would not be present at the sitting.
Under the Parliament’s Regulation, a motion of no confidence represents withdrawal of the support given to the Government on its investiture. It is debated on the first day of the plenary sitting of the next week after the day of its submission and is adopted by a majority of votes of MPs. If the motion is rejected, the MPs who signed it are unable to propose another motion on the same reason during the same session. If it is carried, the Prime Minister tenders the Government’s resignation to the President of the Republic of Moldova within three days.
This is the second attempt to dismiss the Chicu Government, the first being made in July. Then, the motion proposed by the PPPDA MPs was supported by 46 MPs. A censure motion is adopted by 51 votes of MP.
