Parliament to cut staff by 40%

After the Government underwent reorganization, the governing coalition is launching a similar effort in Parliament. Most notably, it involves a 40% staff cut and will save 35 million lei of taxpayer money.

Another highlight is the proposed e-Parliament system, which will enable electronic voting, live-streamed sessions of parliamentary commissions, and digitized records of Parliament proceedings.

“There is understanding among all the colleagues from different political parties. We all agreed that this reform is necessary as it lowers costs”, Speaker Andrian Candu told a press briefing on Friday.

Candu said he hopes the reform will be successful as the Government’s reorganization has been.
