Parliament to consider amendment requiring employers to cover first 3 days of sick leave

The Government will submit to Parliament for consideration an amendment requiring employers to cover the first three days of sick leaves, with the Social Insurance Budget to cover the rest starting from the fourth day, Info-Prim Neo reports. The amendment was proposed after on April 10, responding to a petition by Ombudswoman Aurelia Grigoriu, the Constitutional Court found that the failure to pay the first day of the sick leave amounted to a violation of employees' rights. As a result of the Court's decision, today the first day of the sick leave is covered by the Social Insurance Budget, the following three by the employer, and the remainder by the Social Insurance Budget again.
