Parliament takes notice of Vitalie Pirlog’s resignation

The MPs took cognizance of the resignation from the post of director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) tendered by Vitalie Pirlogm to the Parliament’s secretariat on February 19, two months after his appointment, IPN reports.

In his letter, Vitalie Pirlog said he decided to withdraw in order to work only for INTERPOL, where he wants to continue the reforms that were initiated with his participation.

In his speech in Parliament, Liberal-Democratic MP Iurie Tap said Vitalie Pirlog’s resignation in two months of his appointment reveals the quality of democracy in the Republic of Moldova. The contests to fill high-ranking posts should be held outside the influence of the political class.

The SIS director is named by Parliament at the suggestion of at last ten MPs, with the consent of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order, for a five-year term.
