The Parliament expressed its concern about the intention of the illegal administration from Tiraspol to organize in September 2006 an independence referendum. According to a declaration of the Parliament, approved on Friday, July 28, the plebiscite violates the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the norms of the international law. It isn’t in any way a free choice of people. The declaration also says that the referendum will be organized in the period when the talks are blocked by the Transnistrian leaders and when the customs regime at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border is showing positive results. The Parliament considers that the Transnistrian dispute can be peacefully solved once and for all, through democratizing the political and social-economic activity of the region. The document calls on the international community to firmly support Moldova in reuniting the two banks of Nistru River, and towards European integration. The regime from Tiraspol will take upon itself all the responsibility for the consequences of the so-called referendum, which can not be recognized by the international community, is also said in the declaration. The declaration was adopted with the votes of 90 MPs, only 3 persons voted against it. The official text of the declaration will be presented to the public after drawing it up. Tiraspol announced that the referendum on the statute and foreign affairs policy of Transnistria will take place on September 17. The officials of the Republic of Moldova and the international community announced that the results of the plebiscite will not be recognized.
