Parliament reviews legislation on participation in international missions and operations

The MPs on December 3 adopted a bill on Moldova’s participation in international missions and operations. According to the authors, the bill supplements the existing legislation with the principles of participation in international peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the EU, IPN reports.

The goal of the given law is to establish the legal framework for ensuring the fulfillment by Moldova of the commitments assumed under the Charter of the United Nations, the treaties signed with the EU, other international organizations and states, which will contribute to maintaining international peace, security and stability and the rule of law, the observance of the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms, the development and functioning of states.

The authors said the adoption of the given law is envisioned in the plan of action for implementing the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU for 2014-2016. Moreover, the creation of an appropriate legal basis and the subsequent deployment of Moldovan contingents to take part in international missions and operations under the aegis of the UN, EU and OSCE will contribute to strengthening Moldova’s role as a supplier of international and regional stability and security.

The innovatory elements and the essence of the bill do not affect Moldova’s status of neutrality and do not imply additional costs.
