Parliament rejects appointment of Gheorghe Ulianovschi as judge at Supreme Court of Justice
The Parliament has rejected, through the negative vote of the Communist Party parliamentary faction, one of the four candidatures proposed by the Superior Council of Magistrate for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).
Thus, the candidatures of Valeriu Arhip, Valentina Clevadi and Valeriu Doaga have gathered the necessary number of votes to be appointed as SCJ judge, while the candidature of Gheorghe Ulianovschi gathered only 38 votes. The parliamentary communist faction has abstained from voting.
Earlier, while voting at the Juridical Commission for Appointments and Immunities, candidatures of Valeriu Arhip, Valentina Clevadi and Valeriu Doaga gained 11 votes each. Six members of the Commission cast their votes for Gheorghe Ulianovschi, as five of them abstained.
Ulianovschi told Info-Prim Neo he does not know why he was not voted by the Parliament, as he took the confirmation at the Superior Council of Magistrate, and the Commission for Appointments and Immunities found, after the hearings, that his candidature also correspond to the rigors stipulated in the legislation to be appointed as judge of the Supreme Court of Justice. Ulianovsci also said he met on Friday morning the communist faction that had nothing to object to him.
In the period from 2000 to 2004, Gheorghe Ulianovshi, Gheorghe Susarenco and Vitalie Nagacevshi sent several reports to the European Court of Human Rights regarding the independence of the justice in Moldova.
