The legislative body on April 23 adopted a decision on the appointment of Boris Lupașcu as Constitutional Court judge for a six-year term. Fifty-six MPs voted in favor of the decision, IPN reports.
The decision takes effect when it is adopted and can be challenged in court within the period stipulated by law.
According to MP Vasile Bolea, there is a statement signed by Boris Lupașcu by which this gives his consent to be named to the post. Boris Lupașcu is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. He has over 15 years of legal experience.
Vasile Bolea, who heads the legal commission, also said that the Law on the Constitutional Court provides that Parliament names judges of the CC, but does not specify the contest procedure. The legal commission examined the candidate and established that this meets all the conditions for being appointed.
A number of persons, including PAS MPs, came together in front of the Constitutional Court to protest. The entrance to the CC is guarded by several police officers.
