The Russian Federation is trying to block Moldova’s European road and the country should thus ask for support from international organizations, doctor of historical sciences Mihai Cernencu stated for IPN.
“We should seek support from the development partners, especially from the foreign ministers’ club that supported Moldova on the path to European integration. The club should send its representatives to the Security Zone to follow every step taken by the separatists with Russia’s assistance,” stated Mihai Cernencu.
According to him, the international organizations will most probably not be indifferent and will make statements in support of Moldova’s integrity. “Russia is trying to destabilize the situation wherever possible. Transnistria is a trump card by which it can influence Moldova. Secondly, the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline can be a serious reason for Russia to try to escalate this conflict,” he stated.
Mihai Cernencu considers that if Moldova is not supported from abroad, the situation of 1992 will repeat. Moldova was to join the UN then and the armed conflict began two days earlier.
On June 20, Parliament held hearings on the situation in the Transnistrian region. On June 21, the MPs are to adopt a joint statement.
