Parliament holds last sitting of autumn-winter session

Like in the previous session, MPs had no speeches prepared for the final sitting of the autumn-winter session, except for Speaker Andrian Candu.

The speaker began by remarking that the Moldovan legislature celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary this year, on which occasion it opened a museum.

Summing up the session, he said it was largely dedicated to exercising parliamentary control, with hearings held in commissions and in plenary meetings on a wide range of issues, and in 13 communities on the issue of women’s involvement in decision-making and on combating domestic violence.

In 2018, announced Andrian Candu, steps will be taken to reorganize Parliament’s Secretariat. Open Doors Weeks will start to be traditionally held in May and September. The speaker noted that 2018 will be an electoral year and urged the MPs not to neglect their parliamentary duties at the expense of campaigning.

Traditionally, the MPs and Parliament staffers welcomed carolers before going on winter recess.
