The legislative body is considering setting up a commission of inquiry for elucidating the circumstances of the attempted anti-constitutional putsch staged by the Democratic Party through the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Socialist parliamentary group proposed as commission members Vladimir Țurcan and Grigore Novac, the PAS group of the ACUM Bloc – Mihai Popșoi, while the Platform DA group of the ACUM Bloc – Dinu Plîngău. The representatives of the Democratic Party said they will not delegate anyone to work on the commission. The seventh post is to be occupied by an MP of the Shor Party. The party’s group wasn’t yet present at the Parliament sitting.

When presenting the bill, the chairman of the legal commission for appointments and immunities Sergiu Litvinenko said the PDM attempted a putsch in Moldova through the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

A thorough analysis is needed into the circumstances in which the Constitutional Court passed the judgements of June 7-9, which were later annulled. The MPs suspect that these decisions were adopted by order of the PDM and its leader Vlad Plahotniuc.

In his speech, Minister of the Interior Andrei Năstase said he denounced the usurpation of the state power to the Prosecutor General’s Office and requested the prosecutor general to take legal action so that the persons involved could be held accountable. He also asked to lift the parliamentary immunity of the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc.

Dumitru Diacov, a member of honor of the PDM, called on the MPs not to take decisions in a hurry. According to him, the Democratic MPs didn’t take part in the decision making process at the Constitutional Court.

The MPs took a break and will then return to vote on the institution of the commission.

By its decisions of June 7-9, the Constitutional Court declared the election of the Parliament’s administration and the formation of the new Government unconstitutional and suspended the President from office. With the annulment of these decisions, the Parliament headed by Zinaida Grechanyi became constitutional, as did the decisions adopted by this and by the Government led by Maia Sandu by then.
