The parliamentary majority didn’t vote for the simple motion put forward by the Communist faction against Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta. Only the 37 Communist MPs and the lawmakers of the Dodon group voted in favor, IPN reports.

When questioned in Parliament, the minister said that the defense sector since 2009 has been reformed and a multitude of public-private partnership projects have been implemented meanwhile. The Ministry of Defense signed two contracts for the sale of assets of the armed forces based on authorizations.

As to the statements described by the Communists as dangerous for the relationship with Tiraspol, the minister said the people must have confidence in the armed forces and realize that thee are no preconditions for a military conflict on the Transnistrian segment, even if the situation is difficult. “We, the Republic of Moldova, do not have military intentions. The conflicts must be settled by peaceful methods. The diplomats should do their job,” he stated.

Answering the questions of Communist MPs about the recent death of a National Army soldier, who was found strangled near the Bulboaca training ground, Vitalie Marinuta said the young man’s family was offered support in organizing the funeral. He denied that the soldier was ill-treated, making reference to the medical-legal examinations.

The Communists accused the minister of being involved in the sale of armament, of making dangerous statements and of the fact that seven soldiers were taken home from the army in coffins. “Isn’t this enough to tender your resignation?” asked Grigore Petrenco. Artur Reshetnikov said that Vitalie Marinuta destroys lives and damages Moldova’s image, contributing to causing a war on the Nistru.

IPN notes that a simple motion is adopted by a majority of votes and expresses the Parliament’s position on a certain issue.
