Parliament Building hosts exhibit centering on Slovak politician Alexander Dubcek

An exhibition of photos showing Slovak politician Alexander Dubcek, who is considered a symbol of the democratization of Slovakia, was mounted in the Parliament Building in connection with the taking over by Slovakia of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second half of 2016, IPN reports.

The exhibition consists of a number of pictures of the illustrious Slovak politician, taken by photographer Vladimir Benko. The photos show both the political activity and the private life of the politician.

“Alexander Dubcek really represents the human face of politics. He contributed to the development and prosperity of the country and was a great patriot who cared about his people,” said Slovakia’s Ambassador to Moldova Robert Kirnag.

“Slovakia took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1 and will maintain the engines of development. Now more than ever, the Republic of Moldova must come with the message that it will continue to fight for the European ideals and will become a member of the European Union when it is ready,” said Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu.

Alexander Dubcek was an MP and Head of the Parliament of Slovakia. In 1989, he was conferred the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought that was established by the European Parliament.
