The legislative body named former Minister of Finance Petru Rotaru, currently deputy governor, as first deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). The draft decision was adopted at Thursday’s meeting of Parliament, IPN reports.
The draft decisions says Petru Rotaru will serve as first deputy governor of the NBM, deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board and deputy chairman of the Executive Board for a term of seven years.
Since 2023, Petru Rotaru had held the position of Minister of Finance. In July 2024, he was appointed deputy governor of the NBM and a member of the Executive Board of the central bank, at the proposal of NBM governor Anca Dragu. He has broad experience in the financial sector and previously served as a member of the Court of Auditors and director of the State Tax Service. Petru Rotaru graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.
The MPs also adopted a draft decision to name Mihnea Constantinescu as deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova and as a member of the Executive Board for a seven-year term.
According to the legislation, the deputy governors of the National Bank of Moldova are appointed by Parliament, at the proposal of the NBM governor, with a majority of votes of MPs. They are named for a term of seven years, with the possibility of renewing their term.
