Parliament appoints 2 members of Broadcasting Regulator, Teleradio Council

The Parliament has appointed the movie director Tudor Tataru as a member of the Observers Council of the Teleradio-Moldova public broadcaster for a 4-year term. At its Friday’s sitting, the Legislature also appointed Vitalie Tabunscic as a member of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC), Info-Prim Neo reports. Confirming Tudor Tataru was secured by the necessary 3/5 of MPs, as he was voted for by the Communists, the Christian-Democrats and some unaffiliated MPs. Opposition MPs criticized the nomination of the director Tudor Tataru, favoring his opponent, the lawyer Vitalie Nagacevschi. The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) faction has proposed that the lawyer should come to the plenary sitting next to Tudor Tataru, but the idea has been rejected by the Communist majority. Some MPs have reproached Tataru for giving up his political ideas and options in the favor of the ruling party. AMN’s Anatol Onceanu has stated once he used to like Tudor Tataru when he was a fighter of the National Movement and struggled for the Romanian language and was an anti-Communist, when he used to bring wine and pies to anti-Communist protesters and walked in Chisinau’s center “with the coffin of Communist Victor Stepaniuc” (the present deputy premier – e.n.) Now there exists another Tudor Tataru, who praises the same Stepaniuc and President Vladimir Voronin in the press and on TV. Another AMN parliamentarian, Leonid Bujor, and the leader of the National-Liberal Party, Vitalia Pavlicenco, have doubted the director will manage to be an objective and equidistant member of the Observers Council, taking into account Tudor Tataru’s repeated attacks on opposition politicians and his busts on TV and in written press. Tudor Tataru’s comedian-style retorts have enraged some MPs, who qualified his attitude as offending and inadmissible for parliamentary debates. Tudor Tataru has assured he is the best to be an OC member, because he is a director, and will further say it bluntly what he believes about each politician. Tataru has confirmed he is a very good friend with Victor Stepaniuc, “and with all nice fellows”. The director has added he started to be accused after he hosted Vladimir Voronin at the Buciumul studio. “Mister Voronin is a nice man, a good man,” said Tudor Tataru, specifying he used to host other statesmen at Buciumul, too. Communist MP Elena Botnarenco has said her faction supports Tudor Tataru not because he supports the Communists, but because he is a professional. Christian Democrat Angela Arama has remarked the importance of that confirmation is exaggerated, as one member cannot influence the decisions of Teleradio’s Board. Tudor Tataru will replace Victoria Musteata, who resigned last summer. Vitalie Tabunscic has been appointed by the votes of 62 MPs, and took the oath as a member the Broadcasting Council. He is a philologist by and education and deputy director of the national TV.
