Parliament annuls vote to create commission of inquiry into BEM case

The legislative body nullified the vote to constitute a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the situation at Banca de Economii (BEM). The initiative was put forward by the Liberal-Democratic faction and was supported by the Communist MPs, Info-Prim Neo reports. The suggestion to annul the vote was made by the leader of the Liberal-Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet after the amendments proposed by the Lib-Dems in the February 21 sitting of Parliament hadn’t been taken into account. Valeriu Strelet suggested that the February 21 vote should be invalidated, while the relevant bill should be put again to the vote with the amendments put forward by the Lib-Dems. Under these amendments, the commission will examine the situation in the entire banking system within 60 days. Speaker Marian Lupu put the issue to the vote and the proposal was accepted by the votes of 57 Liberal-Democratic and Communist lawmakers. The commission of inquiry was set up at the proposal of the Liberal Party and was to present a report in 30 days.
