New legislation makes it possible to use 30-meter strips on the rivers Nistru and Prut for navigation and for construction of temporary docks. Vessels navigating inland waterways will be required to have an inland navigation certificate. This is a new definition introduced in the legislation, certifying that a ship meets technical requirements.

Measures facilitating the construction of temporary docks on inland waterways were adopted today by Parliament.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry says that the legislative proposal was developed following requests from the business community, who cited administrative barriers in carrying goods and passengers on domestic waterways. Because of the war, agricultural goods can no longer be transported through Ukrainian ports.

Under the new law, restrictions on the movement of naval transport on internal waterways will be repealed. Measures to maintain navigable channels will be adopted and customs clearance operations will be allowed at the temporary docks. At the same time, it will be prohibited to sell solid sediments, such as sand, gravel or river stone, resulting from works on navigable channels and from setting up temporary docks. Instead, such resources will have to be disposed of downstream of the rivers from which they were extracted.
