The building of parking garages in the most crowded parts of Chisinau is the most efficient solution to the shortage of parking places in the capital city. Such an opinion is shared by 52% of the respondents of a poll. In the case of yards of old blocks, over half of those surveyed said they would like free spaces to be identified outside yards for putting up pay or free parking lots there. Almost one fourth of those polled consider parking places are needed at bus terminals and on the periphery of the capital city. The survey was initiated by the municipality to find out what the residents think about the key proposals of the strategy for the sustainable socioeconomic and spatial development of the municipality of Chisinau, IPN reports.
Over 2,060 inhabitant of the municipality of Chisinau and the suburban settlements, who took part in the survey, said the strategy contains actions to improve/modernize the city. According to deputy mayor Ilie Ceban, the procedure for designing the document was initiated about two years ago. This is a fundamental document for the development of the city. The Chisinau City Hall is at the final stage of debates on this strategy. The document covers a number of areas, such as the economy, transport, tourism, architecture and urban mobility.
57% of the inhabitants of Chisinau support the municipal authorities’ proposal to divide the public transport into urban and suburban. 88% believe that cycle tracks should be set up. 52% are for dedicated lanes. 24% said the lanes can be dedicated or merged with transport lanes, while 12% consider the cycle tracks should be merged with transport lanes.
The strategy suggests that the old apartment buildings that are in a deplorable state should be demolished and modern blocks of average or small height should be erected in their place. 71% of the respondents support such an initiative.
The strategy also contains a series of solutions to the demographic problem. Asked about the most pressing related problems, 42% of those interviewed said that increasing the accessibility to dwellings for young families by developing mortgages is the most important step. 34% of those polled said favorable life conditions should be created in the city for families with children.
93% of the inhabitants of Chisinau municipality believe the city needs visual identity and a tourist brand that could be promoted to attract guests to the capital city. Asked what services should be developed in Chisinau to attract tourists, 36% said curative services, 27% said dental services, while 12% mentioned reproductive health.
Boris Gîlca, head of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division, said the municipality of Chisinau has yet potential for such services. “We have at least three-four high-quality services recognized at international level, which yearly attract a lot of persons to the Republic of Moldova for treatment, like dental services. In the municipality of Chisinau, there are most of the dental care clinics with high-quality services, with international accreditation and with very attractive prices,” he stated.
He noted that there are private clinics in Chisinau that successfully provide in-vitro fertilization services to patients from all the continents. The plastic surgery services in the capital city are also very popular and are provided at reasonable prices.
