Park of goals scored at FIFA World Cup 2006 opened in Chisinau suburbs

An unusual park was inaugurated on the National Day of Germany in Budesti village, part of Chisinau municipality. “The Moldovan-German Park of goals”, with an area of 44 hectares has the shape of a football, and those 147 planted trees are the equivalent of the goals scored at this year’s World Cup. According to a press release of the Presidency, the head of the state participated at the event. Vladimir Voronin declared that this venue will have a great success, including among foreign guests. According to the president, the Park of Goals can be a bridge between Moldova and the Federal German Republic, a symbol of unity between sports and environment, contributing to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle. The ambassador of Germany to Moldova, Wolfgang Lerke participated in the inauguration ceremony. The guests visited the Center for Children and Youth, inaugurated in 2002 with the support of the German-based Udo Jurgens Foundation. The center has a reading room, arranged in European style, an improvised art exhibition of the children from the village, a computers room. The participants visited also the Health Center from Budesti, which as well works in partnership with Germans - „Hilfsprojekt-Strassenkinder EV, Kaufungen, Germany” Association, as well as “Save the Children” international charity organization.
