Parents’ migration leads to tenser relations in school

The parents’ migration and the fact that the students are left under guardianship or even alone lead to the worsening of the teacher-student and student-student relations. The children can be very impulsive or very withdrawn. Such students can have poor results at school and can encounter communication and cooperation problems. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sport organized a training seminar centering on the psycho-pedagogical strategies for overcoming interpersonal relationship difficulties. “In most of the education institutions in Chisinau, there are psychologists whose duty is to identify behavioral difficulties in children. The psychologist must be able to settle disputes. Conflict situations can derive from a grade or from inappropriate behavior,” said the Division’s deputy head Valentina Cujba. Such conflicts can be resolved by holding counseling classes, private and group discussions and extracurricular activities. “The students must feel that they are appreciated, supported and not neglected,” said Valentina Cujba. The number of children who are under the supervision of the inspectorate for minors and of children involved in the commission of offenses has increased. “There are many children who are brought up by one parent or who are left alone or under somebody’s guardianship. Besides material support, the child also needs moral support,” stressed Valentina Cujba.
