Parents are taught how to protect their children from car accidents

Parents have gathered in classes throughout the country and are taught how to educate their children in order to avoid car accidents and how to behave responsibly on the street. The traffic education classes are part of the campaign “Do you know how to avoid the dangers of the street?”, organized by the Moldo-Swiss Project REPEMOL and the ProtectMD Foundation.

The goal of the trainings is to raise the parents’ awareness about daily traffic risks, especially for kids and youth, and to improve their knowledge and understanding of methods for preventing car accidents involving children.

One of the trainers, Tatiana Mihailova, told IPN that they are trying to motivate parents to be more active and responsible in ensuring the children’s safety in traffic. So far, 50 trainings have been organized in different districts and the participants discussed about the safety of pedestrian children, passenger children or kids on bikes or roller-skates.

“The issue of car accidents involving children is topical for our country. Our pedestrians don’t have any special training”, said Mihailova. According to her, 411 kids were injured in car accidents in 2014 and 20 of them died. Parents have a duty to provide traffic education to their children in order to protect their health and safety.

In addition to parents, the trainings are attended by teachers, representatives of local public authorities and local opinion leaders in order to better dissemination the message.

The organizers want to train 10,000 people in 200 different towns and villages, till April 2017. The places where trainings will be organized are selected according to the risk of car accidents, while also considering the geographic and linguistic representativeness criteria.

The campaign “Do you know how to avoid the dangers of the street?” is implemented by the Regionalization of the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Medical Services System - REPEMOL Project and the National Patrol Inspectorate, with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
