Parajurists to provide primary legal assistance in rural areas
Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase Friday signed a cooperation agreement with Soros-Moldova Foundation to set up a network of parajursits who will provide primary legal advice in rural areas. The people living in the targeted areas will be able to learn their rights and the number of costly legal cases tried in courts will thus reduce, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Justice.
The project is designed to strengthen the democratic governance in Moldova by engaging the population in the decision-making process at the national and local levels. The parajurists will provide primary legal assistance to the members of the community and will help solve community problems.
About 20 parajurists will attend a training course and will then continue work in the system. There will be formulated a set of recommendations for efficiently organizing the work of the parajursits in rural areas.
The project will be managed by a working group that will include representatives of Soros-Moldova Foundation, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, the National Council for State-Guaranteed Legal Aid, the Social Assistants Network, three experts involved in the project and two coordinators of parajurists' activities.
The creation of the parajurists network in rural areas forms part of the priorities stated in the project “Improving Good Governance in Moldova Through Increased Public Participation," which is implement by Soros-Moldova Foundation,
