Papuc questioned by prosecutors again
The former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc was again questioned in the case opened over the April 7 and 8 events, Info-Prim Neo reports.
After the meeting, Gheorghe Papuc told the reporters that he answered all the questions put by the prosecutors, but did not give details.
“I remain suspect, but I do not consider myself guilty. At that time, we had to intervene in order to avoid bloodshed. No other methods were than possible,” Papuc said.
Asked if torture was used during the April events, Papuc said the investigations that are now carried
out will reveal what happened.
Sergiu Garabagiu, the head of the Prosecution Division of the General Prosecutor's Office, said Gheorghe Papuc is suspected of misconduct in office.
“This case is very complicated. New circumstances are discovered every day. We decided to question Papuc again to clarify certain aspects. On April 7, Gheorghe Papuc gave orders that had serious consequences. Many persons were maltreated. There were taken illegal decisions,” Garabagiu said.
Over 100 complaints about use of torture and mistreatment during the April events have been submitted to the Prosecutor's Office so far. A number of cases opened against police officers were sent to court.
