Panpipe player Vasile Iovu becomes citizen of honor of Chisinau municipality

Panpipe player Vasile Iovu was conferred the title of citizen of honor of Chisinau municipality. A decision to this effect was taken in the February 21 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. The proposal to give such a title to the panpipe player was put forward by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He said that Vasile Iovu made a significant contribution to the development of folk culture and promotion of the national instrument – panpipe. The proposal was endorsed by all the councilors. People’s Artist Vasile Iovu was born on July 24, 1950 in Bardar, Ialoveni. He holds the National Award and the Order of the Republic. The master cooperated with the orchestras “Fluieras”, “Lautarii”, “Mugurel”, the State Symphonic Orchestra and others. He is a laureate of many national and international contests. In 1973, he opened a panpipe class at the Arts Institute “G. Musicescu”. In 2007, university lecturer Vasile Iovu published the volume “Panpipe Method”. In 1992, he founded the instrumental ensemble “Vasile Iovu”, which he heads.
